    Steps to being a Developer

  • 1/ Are you suitable? You are suitable if you have a basic knowledge of Flash and are able to use Flash to design the look and feel of your website. While having Actionscript coding experience is an advantage for building your own custom components, it is not necessary as the software has its own pre-built and coded sample files that can be modified as suits.
  • 2/ Join up to the developer network by filling in your details and you will be emailed a developer Password. Join Here
  • 3/ Once you have the pass word go to the developers section of this website and open the Developer Editor Link.
  • 4/ Use your password and email address to gain access. (if you download the desktop version ,then you can click Remember Button )
  • 5/ You can view the sample site that you can use to see how the software works
  • 6/ When you require to build a site then you can click the add new website button which will allow you to enter the clients details and build a shell ready for your modifications.
  • 7/ Once you have added the site it will appear in you client list, by clicking ABC or 123 buttons or the search field, This is helpful when managing large numbers of sites. Once selected, the client information and hosting product details can be modified as necessary.
  • 8/ Log on into the site, where you find the design editor, and content editor. The content editor is the same as the client would use, and information about how to use GenWeb Pub (content editor) is available from the tutorial page of the Support section of this website
  • 9/ The design tools haven’t had a tutorial written yet but will be available soon.
  • The basic concept behind GenWeb Dev is a series of libraries that have rebuilt components for each part of the website.
  • All components are made from Flash SWF files and build from FLA source files; Basic sample source files are available from either the Library of each component or by purchasing them from the Resource Library off this site.

    These components are

    Stage Component (Required)

  • This component is 800 x 420 pixels and comprises the background to the website. Either you can choose from a pre-built background or load your own into your clients personal library. Sample source files are available to download and modify in the library section. There is usually little or no Action script in this file unless required for an animation
  • Header Component (Required)

  • This component is 800 x 50 pixels and comprises the header to the website and contains dynamic header text that is updated when the user navigates through the website. The sample Source file has a dynamic colour bar that responds to the colour management, but is not required if using custom colours and designs. This file can contain the brand if required.
  • 3/Footer Component, (Optional)

  • This component is 800 x 420 pixels and can be used to ad navigation, branding or design elements generally along the bottom or lower left hand side.
  • Page Interface Components, (Optional)

  • These components can be added to customise a page display anywhere through out the site. When managing the content of the site, you can set the Special Page Function to load Component, where you can load your own custom component or choose from the general library, or purchase one from the Resource Library. You can upload these only from the GenWeb Dev.
  • The Navigation and Page Theme Components,

  • These are also customisable, but are highly coded and require advanced Action script users to modify these files. If your client requires customisation of these then we can recommend advanced developers for this purpose.
  • We will post a full Tutorial on the GenWeb Dev tools soon
